General store in Seymour to host apple festival

SEYMOUR - The All-American Valley General Store, 16 Bank St. in the historic downtown antique district, will host the second annual Apple Harvest Festival Saturday. 

The event starts at 10 a.m., culminating with a Farmers Feast at the store from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. with a bill of fare flavored with all things apple. 

Rita’s Cowgirl Dancers will perform and there will be guest appearances by alpacas and chickens, as well as pumpkin painting, face painting, and all things apple.

Stroll the brick-lined sidewalks and browse the antique stores, book stores, tea shops and cafes.

The weekly meal at the general store is made from ingredients from local growers, set to the music of country, folk, and bluegrass musicians. For information or reservations, call 203-828-6442.

The Shops at Seymour Merchants Group is hosting its first-ever Apple Harvest Festival today until 5 p.m.
It's a beautiful fall day - and perfect weather to check out all that the downtown shop owners have to offer!

Shops at Seymour to host Apple Harvest Festival

SEYMOUR - Saturday will be a day to celebrate autumn.

The Shops at Seymour Merchant Group is hosting a first-ever "Apple Harvest Festival" from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

This event is the first of many the group is planning to sponsor in an effort to promote downtown and what it has to offer.

The festival will feature live entertainment, autumn-themed food and beverages, sales and specials at the participating shops, a petting zoo, book signing by an award-winning children's author, and more.

St. Anthony's Book & Gift Shop will feature a "Best Angel" contest, Dragonflies Floral Shop will feature a "Children's Best Painted Pumpkin" contest, and the General Store has several contests running. Contact any of those shop owners for details.

Applications are being accepted from individuals ages 10-18 to be crowned this year's Apple Harvest King and Queen.

Applications may be picked up at any of the participating downtown shops through Saturday. Applications are due to either Dragonflies Floral Shop, the Mad Hatter Boutique, or the Law Office of Karen Fisher, by 5 p.m. Saturday.

Winners will be announced the following week, and will receive flowers from Dragonflies and participate in a photo shoot downtown.

Several merchants are participating in a hay bale-decorating contest.

On Friday Connecticut news anchor Ann Nyberg will be touring downtown and judging the hay bales. 

Winners will be announced at the festival.
