Reading Rocks in Ansonia

ANSONIA — Students and families in Ansonia are invited to attend the 2nd Annual Summer Reading Rocks, which will be held on the property of Christ Episcopal Church across from the Ansonia Library on South Cliff Street this Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is free of charge.

Many of last year’s offerings will be returning this year, including live entertainment, traveling performers, a picnic lunch, a petting zoo, face painters and a balloon artist, a self-contained soft play obstacle course, and free raffles.

A backpack, water bottle and summer reading books will be available for Ansonia students who register during the event. More than a dozen local organizations providing services to Ansonia residents will be on hand to distribute free information.

The main stage will feature the following performers: Lynn’s Sing A Long at 11 a.m.; Author Ried Kaplan, who will read his book, “Let’s Eat Together” at noon; Al DeCant, the singing principal, shortly after 1:00 p.m.; and magician Danny Magic at 2 p.m. Raffles will be held at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Ansonia Library is co-sponsoring Reading Rocks with the school district. Funding is being provided by the State of Connecticut through grants awarded to Ansonia Public Schools.

Singers set peaceful mood at Master's Table dinner in Ansonia

Santa, Mrs. Claus, volunteers make season bright

ANSONIA >> On Sunday I attended a Master's Table community meal at Christ Episcopal Church and was impressed with the caring shown by all the volunteers.

The youngest volunteer I met, Zavier Desrosiers of Ansonia, told me he will turn 9 on Thursday, and there were several senior citizens there as well as every age in between.

The volunteers deserve to be commended for giving of their time one Sunday a month to help others.

And kudos go to Jim Fedak and his wife, Janette Feltz-Fedak, who founded the organization and have worked hard to make it a success. Jim Fedak said the number of people they serve continues to grow.

As you can see Sunday's dinner had a Christmas theme. Children and adults all received a wrapped gift from Santa.

The nonprofit is seeking volunteers for the next two dinners, slated for Jan. 26 and Feb. 23.

Blessing of riders and bikes slated at Ansonia church

ANSONIA - Christ Episcopal Church, 56 S. Cliff St., will co-host a Blessing of Riders and Bikes May 5 after the 10 a.m. Service of Holy Eucharist.

At about 11:30 am, riders and passengers (and other interested persons) will gather in the parking lot around the Holy Water Pot and participate in a Liturgy to prepare for the Blessing of Riders and Bikes.

 
Blessings will be offered by the Rev. Dick Beattie, Interim Rector, Christ Episcopal Church, and Chaplain of Star Touring & Riding Chapter 293, New Haven.

Participants are encouraged to wear Chapter Colors for the event. It will run until 3 p.m.

Riders are welcome to attend the Celebration of Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m.

There will be coffee and light refreshments available.
