Route 8 Lane Closures in Seymour beginning Nov. 17

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a nighttime milling and resurfacing project will be performed on Route 8, NB in Seymour, beginning Thursday, November 17, 2016.

The project consists of milling and resurfacing a 0.135 mile segment of Route 8, NB in Seymour. The project is scheduled to occur from 8:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 to the morning of Saturday, November 19, 2016.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 8, NB between the Exit 19 (Wakelee Ave.) on ramp and Exit 21 (Derby Ave.) off ramp. Impact attenuators, state police and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is 8:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. (Thursday through Saturday)

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.

Crisco, Conroy: Improvements planned for Rte. 8 corridor

Project to focus on Derby, Ansonia
State Rep. Theresa Conroy, D-Seymour, and state Sen. Joseph Crisco, D-Woodbridge, Thursday attended an informational meeting on the project (State Project #36-179) to improve safety and access along the Route 8 corridor in Derby and Ansonia. 

The meeting, hosted by the Valley Council of Governments, invited key stakeholders, such as businesses, property owners and police, to discuss issues surrounding the project.

“This project will help alleviate the traffic congestion in the area and will be an improvement for the area businesses and the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital,”  Conroy said.
“In addition, the state and local agencies will be working with homeowners to improve the communication process as the project moves forward.” 

The work will overhaul exits 16, 17, and 18 as they provide access to and from Route 8, including traffic flow and safety improvements to local streets.

“Route 8 is an economic lifeline between the largest city in Connecticut – Bridgeport – and the fifth-largest city in the state, Waterbury,” Crisco said. 
“Any project of this magnitude that involves state and federal funds, the reconstruction of four bridges and nearly four miles of new ramp and roadway construction should receive input from state and local officials and the public. I was happy to attend today's meeting.”  

The project is expected to cost $10-12 million and be split 80/20 between federal and state funding. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2015 and with a target date of fall 2016 for completion.

The project consists of resurfacing Route 8 (northbound) from exit 19 to exit 22 in Seymour.

Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 8 (northbound), from exit 19 to exit 22. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is Aug. 2 (10 p.m. to 7 a.m.).

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.
Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.

Seymour Lions promote green initiative, mark Earth Day

SEYMOUR - The Seymour Lions Club recently took part in a Lions Green Team initiative to help the environment by celebrating Earth Day at its Adopt-A-Spot located at the bottom of Exit 22 off Route 8 North.
The club’s efforts resulted in a welcoming entrance into Seymour.

According to Yvonne Lorincz, Seymour Lions Club president, “This Lions Green Team project improved the environment and our community at the same time. It exemplifies our ongoing commitment to provide a healthier and safer place to live, work and play.
"Lions thank everyone who contributed to and supported this important effort. You are truly helping Lions make a difference.”

The Seymour Lions Club meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Molto Bene Italian American Kitchen, 557 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia.
In addition to environmental projects, the club also is having a Meet & Greet Book Swap on May 19 and is starting its Summer Cruise Season May 5.

Report: Tractor-trailer crash closes Route 8 southbound between exits 24 and 22 in Seymour

WFSB reports that Route 8 southbound between exits 24 and 22 in Seymour is closed after a tractor-trailer jackknifed around 12:30 p.m. It is unknown if anyone was injured and how long the highway will be closed.
