Ansonia Library to host college-planning program

ANSONIA - The Ansonia Library will present "College: Creating Your Own Path" at 5:30 p.m. March 25.
The event is hosted by Brenner LeCompte and Jon Dibble from Morgan Stanley.

Be it public or private, in-state or out, the costs of attending college are higher than ever before.
For many, this price tag makes earning a college degree no more than a dream. 
How prepared is your family to tackle these rising odds and pursue the goal of higher education?

Come sit in on March 25 for a fresh look at the essentials of college planning.
The presentation will address some common myths, explain savings alternatives, and most importantly, provide the information you need to turn your child’s college dreams into reality.
Bring your family, friends, and all others who are interested.

Plan for college at Derby Public Library seminar

            DERBY - The Derby Public Library will host a College Planning Seminar from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  July 9.  

             It will be repeated from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 13. 

            Parents of high school students are invited to attend. Anthony Luther will present these one and a half hour classes, followed by a half-hour question and answer period.

             Two major topics covered include Academic Preparation and Financial Implications of Enrollment Management. 

            Some questions answered will include:  how to maximize the potential for gift-aid, grants, and scholarships; will colleges negotiate a lower price and when; what is the time-line for success and where to start; what are the new tax laws; and more. 

             The emphasis of these seminars are not only on reducing the cost of college, but also the time in the search and application process.  

             Hand-outs will be distributed, but participants are asked to bring a pen and pad for note-taking.

Library to host info sessions, Sports Talk

    DERBY - Social Security Specialist Maria Grice will be at the Derby Public Library at 10 a.m. July 10 for an informal information session. 
    Find out how to apply for benefits, which benefits are available, on-line services, Medicare, COLA  increases, the future of Social Security, and more.
    This is an opportunity to have all your questions answered.  Pamphlets and brochures will also be available. 
    No registration is  necessary.

    The library has scheduled a College Planning Seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. July 11. The same seminar will be repeated from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 14.

Play ball!

    The library is in its seventh season of  hosting the popular Sports Talk series, held every Thursday at 10 a.m. These informal sessions will meet throughout the baseball season. 
    Rich Marazzi, radio talk show host, author, and Major League Baseball Rules consultant facilitates.
     Each session includes trivia contests, videos, lively conversation and more.
    All ages, rookies through veterans are invited to join Rich and his group of Silver Sluggers. No registration is necessary.
