SEYMOUR- Join Treasured Time for its 5^th Annual

Holiday Shopping Extravaganza and its Red, White and Rosé Wine Tasting fundraiser on Thursday, Nov. 16 at The Inn at Villa Bianca in Seymour.

 

The Shopping Extravaganza will be from 5-9 pm. For a $5 donation, visitors can do all their holiday shopping in one place with more than 40 vendors, and a free ticket for raffle prizes.

 

The evening will include a visit from Santa from 5:15-8:15 p.m. DJ Phyllis Kaplan from Lone Wolf Productions will be playing songs to spread the holiday spirit, and there will be a free gift wrapping table.

 

The Wine Tasting will be 6-8:30 p.m. For a $50 donation, participants can take their palate on a journey around the U.S., sampling a variety domestic wines, beers and ciders. Admission also includes hors d'oeuvres, a pasta station and dessert. Combo rates are available with two tickets for $80.

 

The Wine Tasting will also feature unique silent auction items and a “wine pull game” in which $10 purchases a wrapped “mystery” bottle of wine. There will also be live music by Paula Pettinella and homemade cupcakes with a boozy twist by Sugar and Spice Cupcakes.

 

The Wine Tasting is held in partnership with GLENRO Spirit Shoppe in Monroe. Both events are sponsored by the Hampton Inn, Shelton and Jason Oberhand, DDS Family Dentistry, Trumbull.

Golf Event to Help Local Family

Treasured Time, Inc. is hosting its inaugural “Driving for Memories” Golf Outing to help a Stratford family make lasting memories.

 

The Stanton Family will be the featured family and “Gift of Moments” recipients for the event. Tim Stanton, 46, was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in February 2017. At the time of his diagnosis, it had spread to his liver and lymph nodes. Stanton had a 10 cm mass from surgically removed his colon in March, along with 10 inches of his colon and 17 of 25 lymph nodes. At the time of his diagnosis in February, the tumor mass on his colon was measuring at 6 cm, indicating this is a fast growing cancer.

 

Stanton started chemo in April. He had the choice to start with a more basic chemo but opted to go for a more aggressive form of treatment. He had four rounds on this aggressive chemo and unfortunately his scans showed negative results. There were no improvements to his colon or his liver metastases. If the next set of scans do not show favorable results, he will begin exploring clinical trials that may help to slow down the progression of the cancer.

 

Stanton has three children Alanna, age 24, and twin boys Blake and Lucas, age 6. His eldest daughter Alanna is a huge support, taking him to doctor’s appointments and helping with her brothers and chores around the house. Stanton’s wife, Missy, can’t take much time off since she just started a new job.

 

Stanton and his family spend much of their time creating memories together. Stanton would love the opportunity to take his family to Disney World and explore the magic it has to offer before he is unable to.

 

Driving For Memories will be Wed., Sept. 13 at Whitney Farms Golf Course in Monroe. This is a rain or shine event with a shotgun start at noon. The cost is $125 per person and includes a dinner reception and auction after golf. Tickets for just the dinner reception and auction are $50 per person.

Laugh for A Good Cause

Treasured Time invites the community to a hilarious dinner theatre show fundraiser on Saturday, May 21 from 6-9 p.m. at the Brownson Country Club, 15 Soundview Ave., Shelton.

“For Better & For Worse” is unpredictable and spontaneous performance that immerses the audience in an interactive theatre experience that takes all the elements of a typical over-the-top Italian American wedding and exaggerates them with hilarious results. Participants are invited to wear their favorite bridesmaid, gangster, or movie star outfit.

“We're very excited to be doing our production for this fantastic organization. Treasured Time has touched many lives and we hope people will come out and support this cause. It’s a complete night of entertainment. You’ll dance, dine, and be delighted,” said Janice Luise-Lutkus, Founder and Executive Director of AspenDream Production.

The event will also feature a silent auction of fun wedding themed packages.

Tickets for dinner and the show are $60 per person, $100 per couple or $400 for a table of eight. There is a cash bar available.

Valley Charity to Host Benefit Concert Sat. Jan. 9

DERBY- A Valley charity that grants wishes to parents with life-threatening illnesses who want to create a lasting memory with their children will host a concert this weekend to help raise money for deserving families.

Treasured Time, Inc. treasuredtime.org, of Seymour, is hosting “A Night to Remember” a charity concert at 6 p.m. Saturday (JANUARY 9) at Derby High School, 8 Nutmeg Ave.

“A Night to Remember” will feature four musical performances by popular area performers. Paula Bogart-Pettinella will take the stage at 6 p.m., performing such classics by Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Patsy Cline and other popular singers and songs of the late 50’s and 60’s.

Modern-day crooner Mark Lanzieri will be featured at 7:15 p.m., performing songs out of the American Songbook and Golden Era including Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. Flying Meat will take the stage at 8:30 p.m., performing their original rock music, specifically tailored and written for the City of Derby. The Gamma Rays will close out the night at 9:45 p.m., entertaining the crowd with hits of the 80s and 90s.

Admission is $10 per adult. Children 16 and under are free. Additional donations are welcome throughout the night. There will be snacks and drinks available for purchase. Attendees can also take their chances in a 50/50 raffle. This event is being organized by Mark Searles and Flying Meat, with all proceeds being donated to Treasured Time.

According to a press release, Treasured Time is currently raising money for eight local families. The organization’s most recent wish is being granted to Derby resident Jodi Chevarella, 44, who was diagnosed in 2010 with Stage 2 Invasive Breast Cancer. Chevarella underwent chemotherapy, radiation and 11 surgeries in a year to remove the cancer and perform reconstruction surgeries. The cancer, however, resurfaced and Chevarella has since been diagnosed with Stage IV, Her2 Metastic Breast Cancer. This past year she received radiation again and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and hormone treatment.

Chevarella is continuing to fight and keep positive during this difficult and uncertain time. She wants nothing more than to be able to create a lasting memory with her family by going on a cruise with her husband Dave and their four children: Anna, 16, David, 14, Isabelle, 12 and Genna, 10.

The family has never been on a cruise, and is something Chevarella wants to be able to do with her husband and children. Treasured Time will be granting Chevarella’s wish this summer.

Last April, thanks to fundraising efforts by Seymour Middle School’s Student Council, which donated proceeds from a  “Frozen” themed breakfast, Treasured Time was able to grant a trip of a lifetime to Disney World to another local family, dealing with stage IV pancreatic cancer.

Treasured Time seeks support for Naugatuck family

Stacey and Mark Aresta of Naugatuck are the perfect fairy tale story.
They met at just 18 years old, fell in love, and have been married for the last 20 years.

 They have three beautiful children, Trevor, 15, Teresa, 13, and Elizabeth, 8 and dreamed of one day being foster parents.

Sadly, last year their fairy tale turned into a nightmare when Stacey was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer.  She has four tumors on her breasts, six tumors in her liver, and is undergoing more tests to determine if the spots on her lungs are scar tissue or additional tumors.
Stacey is undergoing treatment at the Leever Center in Waterbury, and will undergo treatment the rest of her life as the cancer is inoperable.

Treasured Time, Inc. is looking to grant Stacey’s wish this October.  Her dream is to go with her husband and children to the Grand Canyon.
All her life Stacey has wanted to camp there, but due to her condition she has been advised not to by doctors. As a perfect alternative, she wishes to take a tour of the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam.

The nonprofit Treasured Time gives families with parents facing life-threatening illness a chance to create lifetime memories.

This marathon sounds like a fun event. Exhausting, but fun!

ANSONIA - Treasured Time, Inc. held its first Valentine’s Day gala Friday.
The event brought together 50 people for a fantastic Valentine’s dinner and dancing at Molto Bene Italian American Kitchen in Ansonia.

Guests enjoyed a delectable four course meal, dancing from the tunes of DJ Bryan, and had formal and fun pictures taken by the one and only Jan Sexson Photography.
In addition, guests took part in a silent auction and bid on fantastic prizes from Marks of Design, Cork and Keg, the Bridgeport Bluefish, Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, The Adventure Park at the Discovery Museum, and Hilton Garden Inn of Shelton.

All proceeds from the event and auction went to support Treasured Time, Inc. and its mission to grant the wishes of parents with life-threatening illness who want to create a lasting memory with their children.

ANSONIA - Join Treasured Time at a Valentine’s Day Gala from 7-11 p.m. Feb. 14 at Molto Bene Italian American Kitchen, 557 Wakelee Ave.

Bring your sweetheart for a romantic evening of food, cocktails, and dancing.

Hors d’oeuvres and cocktail reception will begin at 7 p.m. along with a silent auction.
At 8 p.m. there will be a romantic dinner for two or come with friends and meet other singles by sharing the evening at a table for 10, along with dancing, open bar, and an auction.

Nonprofit seeks support for Oxford family

We at Treasured Time know that there are many families battling life threatening illnesses and who are in need of support.

Our mission is to create moments that will last a lifetime for these families. 

Our focus during this holiday season turns to the Lee Family from Oxford.

Bob and his wife, Cathy, have two young boys, ages 8 and 10. Bob is battling a rare form of cancer called Synovial Sarcoma. Synovial Sarcoma is a rare and aggressive soft tissue sarcoma. 

We would like to “Give the Gift of Moments” this holiday with a Gift Card Drive that directly supports the Lee family. 

We are asking that you drop off your gift card donations (grocery, gas, department stores, restaurants, Visa/Mastercard/Amex) at the Starbucks location on Rt. 67 in Seymour, between now and Dec. 22. 

Please help us make it possible for the Lee family to make memories through your kindness and generosity.

Friendship, support shared at meet and greet in Shelton

SHELTON - On Monday night I attended a meet and greet for a newly-established foundation, Treasured Time.
The event at Ari Bella Restaurant drew about 20 supporters.

The founder, Seymour resident Suzanne Major, is a woman on a mission: to provide families with a parent facing a life-threatening illness with an experience that will create lasting memories. She said she wants these families to be able "to relax, escape from everything they have to do" when a parent needs a lot of medical attention.

"The support I've gotten for this is just incredible," she said. 


Major said Monday the Foundation's first event, a kick-a-thon held Saturday at Bushi Ban, a martial arts school in Seymour, was a success. The event benefited the Lee family of Oxford.

Also on hand Monday was Major's friend, Lisa Bredice of Seymour. Her husband, David Bredice, died in June at age 47 after a long battle with melanoma. The family has three young children.

Major said watching her friend's family struggle with a terminal illness is what inspired her to establish Treasured Time. The organization has applied for 501(c)(3) non-profit status which Major expects to receive within "three to six months."


I commend Major for following her heart and establishing such a worthwhile organization,
and I wish her much success as the foundation grows.
