Bereavement Support Groups at Griffin

DERBY - Griffin Hospital is offering ongoing support groups this summer for anyone experiencing the loss of a loved one.
 
These groups are assisted by caregivers in Griffin’s Department of Spiritual Care and Education and provide grief education and support to ease the pain of loss as well as encouraging healing and growth. There will be groups meeting on Tuesdays from 4-5:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. at the hospital, 130 Division St., Derby.

Healing Workshop Offered at Griffin Hospital



DERBY - Griffin Hospital will offer a basic level Soft Touch workshop June 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. June 10 at the hospital, 130 Division St.

Soft Touch is a therapeutic, relaxing, and gentle massage that can be given to an individual's hands, feet, or back. Griffin Hospital offers variations of this therapy to patients and their caregivers as a way to reduce their anxiety, pain, and stress.
 
The workshop is led by Licensed Massage Therapist Joanne Halstead, R.N., BSN, and Physical Therapist Nancy Corvigno, MSPT, PRPC. This basic-level training includes a demonstration of various Soft Touch techniques as well as opportunity for hands-on practice.
 
The cost is $30. There are no prerequisites to attend the workshop and it is open to the public.Space is limited and sign-ups are due by June 1. Contact Laura Murphy, Planetree Services supervisor, at 203-732-7466 to enroll.

Griffin Hospital to Offer Healing Workshop

DERBY - Griffin Hospital is offering area residents an opportunity to advance their Reiki training with a Reiki Level 2 Workshop from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sat., May 13.
 
Reiki Master Eileen Carino, RN-BC, and Mark Sampieri, RPh, will provide practitioners with the ability to perform emotional healing, to learn three of the four Usui Reiki sacred symbols, and to enhance their healing abilities. Reiki 2 attunement intensifies the energies introduced at Reiki 1. Participants must have completed Reiki Level 1 training and a minimum of 6 months Reiki practice.
 
Reiki is a complementary healing method based on ancient healing practices. Reiki involves the conscious direction of healing energy through the practitioner’s hands to the patient. When channeled properly, this energy promotes healing by relieving energy blockages to the body. The practice of
Reiki is intended to bring balance to the energy fields thereby promoting healing on all levels.
 
The cost of the Reiki 2 workshop is $125.

New Music Education/Healing Arts Center Opens in Valley

SHELTON - A new business called SoulSong recently opened its doors at 163 Leavenworth Road in Shelton
 
Owner, Suzanne Vick, defines SoulSong as a Music Education and Healing Arts Center. Her
vision is to create an open, supportive community where people can come together for creative
expression, guidance and healing one-on-one from Suzanne and also from each other.
 
This beautiful space has two private session rooms for music lessons and Reiki/energy healing,
as well as an open, spacious waiting room that will double as an area for group sessions which
will include a songwriter circle, sound healing events and a monthly Saturday seminar series
starting on March 18, 2017 with certified Holistic health & nutrition counselor, Sharon See.
 
Suzanne Vick is a music instructor, songwriter, professional performer, certified Reiki Master
Teacher (RMT) and mentor. She has taught voice and vocal performance for over twelve years
and worked with countless individuals, groups, bands and choirs, enabling them to achieve new
levels of confidence and excitement about singing and performing.
 
After teaching and developing a solid clientele at RVP Studios in West Haven for 11 years,
Suzanne started her own teaching practice and expanded her services to include Reiki/energy
healing and mentoring in 2015. With SoulSong, Suzanne sees her dream of creating a safe,
open space for education, expression and healing become reality. She believes what the world
needs most now is healing and is deeply grateful to be able to provide personal growth and
expression through her music and healing services.
 
An Open House Celebration is planned for Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 2-6pm. The public is

Griffin Hospital in Derby offers Therapeutic Touch workshop

DERBY - Griffin Hospital is offering a two-day Basic Level Therapeutic Touch workshop from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 19 and 20 in the hospital dining room, 130 Division St.

Therapeutic Touch is an energy healing technique that is derived from the ancient practice of laying on of hands. 
It has been taught to thousands of healthcare professionals and can help reduce pain and anxiety, expedite healing, and increase overall feelings of well-being.

Open to the public
The purpose of this basic level TT workshop is to explain the basic concepts and practice of TT, allowing ample time for hands-on practice. Participants must attend both workshop sessions to receive credit. 

The workshop is open to the public and there are no prerequisites to attend.
Instructor Holly Major is an adult nurse practitioner and the TT Coordinator for Griffin Hospital. Major has been teaching TT since 2000 and is a qualified TT instructor through Therapeutic Touch International Associates, the international association of Therapeutic Touch.

The fee for the workshop is $100, and includes all class materials.

Griffin to offer Reiki workshop

DERBY - Griffin Hospital is offering residents an opportunity to learn Reiki, a body, mind, and spirit approach to medicine and healing, at a special Reiki Level 1 Workshop from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 27.

Griffin Hospital employees may register at the discounted rate of $25.

Workshop space is limited, and preregistration is required by Feb. 18.
