Driver safety class slated at Derby Library

DERBY - The Derby Public Library has scheduled an AARP Driver Safety Class from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sept. 23.

Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. 
Cars have changed and so have traffic rules, driving conditions, and the roads you travel. 

This refresher course is designed for driversage 50 and over to brush up on their driving skills.  No written tests, no road tests, and no information will be given to the Department of Motor Vehicles.   

Participants will learn how to drive more defensively and may save up to 10 percent on their present auto liability insurance. 

Space is limited and registration is required. 
Participants may bring a bag lunch; coffee and dessert will be provided.

Derby Public Library plans busy day in May


AARP Driver Safety

Annual Spring Open House           
The Library invites everyone to its Annual Spring Open House from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 13.
 Information on all Library services and events, including summer programs, will be available. 

Cookies and punch will be available throughout the day. There will be two free Spring-themed basket raffles.

The festivities will end with a Beatles Tribute concert at 6:30 p.m.

Beatles Tribute
In celebration of the Beatles' invasion 50 years ago, Willie and Jan Nininger will sing acoustic versions of some classic Beatles songs.
The songs they will perform will include:  Nowhere Man, If I Fell, Across the Universe, Let It Be, and I Feel Fine.   

This talented husband and wife duo have blended their voices in perfect harmony at concerts in both the United States and Europe, bringing back fond memories as they perform a wide variety of
music.
Registration is requested.

Derby Public Library slates free driver class for veterans

DERBY - The Derby Public Library has scheduled a free AARP Driver Safety Class
for all veterans, regardless of age, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12.
            This includes individuals who serve or have served in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard/Reserves, or Coast Guard. 
          In addition, veterans’ spouses, domestic partners, dependents, children, and widows and widowers, regardless of age, may receive the free course also.
         Veterans Day is Nov. 11.
         All eligible participants must present a completed coupon to the Library at the time of registration. Coupons are available for download at www.aarp.org/veterans or at the Library.  All required fields must be filled out. No additional identification is necessary.     
Participants will tune up their driving skills and update their knowledge of the
rules of the road.
         They will also learn defensive driving techniques. No written tests, no road tests, and no information will be given to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
