Club offering self defense, safety classes

SHELTON - The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley is offering KidSafe Karate Self Defense & Safety Awareness classes.
Registration is from 9-11 a.m. Jan. 14. Classes begin Jan. 21 and continue through April 7, a total of 12 lessons. Cost is $8 a week, plus a one-time $10 registration fee. Uniforms are highly recommended and may be purchased in class for $30; KidSafe staff will fit your child or teenager with the proper size.
Open to boys and girls ages 5-15, the program is designed to enhance self esteem, self discipline, and safety awareness. Students are placed into classes according to age and ability.  A black-belt instructor teaches beginning, intermediate, and advanced techniques for self-defense only. Self discipline and defense, rather than aggressiveness are promoted. Weekly safety flyers focus on a wide range of topics, including stranger safety, fire safety, and more.
Registration must be done in person. New students are taken up to the fourth week of class.
