SEYMOUR >> Seymour High School’s class of 2015 will graduate June 17,
but whether the ceremony will take place on traditional DeBarber Field remains
to be seen.
The location of this year’s graduation took center stage during Monday’s
Board of Education meeting. About 40 seniors from the class of 2015 attended and
said they don’t want to balk tradition.
Graduation for decades has been held on the school’s main football field,
DeBarber Field. Seniors traditionally take a lap around the track prior to
taking their seats in the center of the field. However, because the field and
surrounding athletic complex is in line for a huge makeover, thanks to a $2
million state grant the town received last year to install artificial turf, a
brand new track and new, handicapped accessible bleachers, the project start
date could alter the ceremony location.
