Posting Ansonia's Code Red alert in full

This is a copy of the Code Red alert from the City of Ansonia.

Road crews have been working around the clock and are continuing to open roads.  At this point, there are still roads that are impassible.
Our goal is to open each road by the end of the day.  An open road may mean only one lane of travel.  Once all roads are open, we will begin the process of widening the roadways.  This is going to take many days to complete the widening of the roads.
Residents are asked to please limit their driving on city roads because it is impeding road crews and emergency personnel from performing their functions.
  • All emergencies should be reported via 911.
  • The parking ban on all city streets is being extended until further notice.  Residents are reminded that no vehicle may be parked on a city street during this time.
  • Please refrain from throwing snow into the roadways and this is causing some plowed roads to become clogged and impassable.  Residents face severe fines for throwing snow into the roadways.  This includes residents that hire private contractors to plow driveways.
  • All City buildings will be closed on Tuesday, February 12, and Wednesday, February 13
  • All schools will be closed on Tuesday, February 12, and Wednesday, February 13
  • Please remember to clear your furnace vents and help your neighbors.  Our emergency crews have been witnessing residents helping both their neighbors and the emergency crews that are trying to respond to calls for service.  These efforts are greatly appreciated.  Please remember to help elderly residents or family members with getting prescription refills or food supplies.
We ask for residents to be patient and understanding of the task being performed by your road crews.  This storm has dumped over 30 inches of snow on the City of Ansonia, which is well over the amount of snow that fell in the Great Blizzard of 1978.
The City is employing outside contractors to assist with the plowing and has requested assistance from the State of Connecticut.

The City of Ansonia will send out further announcements as needed.
