DERBY — A multi-family home on Derby Avenue sustained heavy damage after a fire Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to several reports of a house fire around 8:40 a.m., according to Fire Chief Thomas Lenart Jr.

There was heavy fire from the second floor into the attic when firefighters arrived at the multi-family home, Lenart Jr. said.

Firefighters began with an interior attack to search for occupants due to reports of possible occupants trapped in the house, according to Lenart Jr. Firefighters found no occupants in the home and the fire was extinguished within 15 to 20 minutes, he said.
There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The Red Cross will assist the family with housing if necessary, Lenart Jr. said. Ansonia and Shelton departments assisted.
