DERBY - Get a head start on Mother's Day by bringing your mother, daughter, granddaughter, and even your spouse to the Annual Valley Women's Health Initiative Tea Party from 2 to 4 p.m. April 27 in the Dining Room at Griffin Hospital, 130 Division St.
Hosted by members of the Valley Women's Health Initiative and sponsored in cooperation with Griffin Hospital, the Tea Party will benefit the Griffin Hospital Valley Breast Health Care Fund.
It is open to everyone, not just women.
The Valley Breast Health Care Fund was established in 2001 to respond to a climbing rate of breast cancer in the Valley communities.
The purpose of this effort is to ensure that no person, regardless of age or socioeconomic condition, is denied screening mammograms or diagnostic testing for breast cancer.
A special blend of tea and sophisticated assortment of savories will be served. Highlighting the event will be a “hat parade,” with a prize awarded for the hat voted “best in show” as well as a variety of door and raffle prizes.
Cost is $30 per person. Reserve your seat by contacting Mariann at 203-732-1300 ormvallillo@griffinhealth.org, or Dorothy at 203.233.7639 or dott.g@comcast.net, or send check to Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave., Derby. 06418.
The Valley Women's Health Initiative is co-chaired by Kate Cosgrove, of Oxford, and Dr. Stephanie Wain of Derby. It is comprised of members of the community working toward a common goal of addressing and improving women’s health issues.
The Initiative sponsors two major fundraisers each year: the Annual “Women Making a Difference in the Valley” event, established as a tribute to the many women who volunteer their time to improve the quality of life in the Valley, and the Annual Tea Party.
Other committee members include Daun Barrett, Cary Carpino, Connie Nunez, Robin Smith and Marianne Vallillo, all of Derby, Dolores Chew and Lauren Kazzi, of Beacon Falls, Karen Cusick and Mia Talamelli of Woodbridge, Dorothy Gandy of Naugatuck, Antonietta Hallet of Southbury, Elizabeth Johnson of Oxford, and Peggy Marlowe of Hamden.
Membership is open to all interested persons.
