Gentile |
COST presented Gentile with the group’s “Town Crier Award” for her legislative leadership and outstanding advocacy for smaller communities and grassroots government.
“I want to
thank COST for this honor. My job is to make sure small towns like
Ansonia and Derby are not overshadowed by the larger communities at the
State Capitol. I will continue to make sure our voices
are heard,” Gentile said.
“Rep. Gentile
has been awarded COST’s Town Crier Award for her leadership role in
winning passage of one of COST’s top priorities last year - legislation
closing a potential $20-$30 million hole in municipal
revenues by clarifying that partially completed construction is subject
to property taxation,” said Dick Smith, COST’s President and First
Selectman of Deep River.
“In addition, as Chair of the legislature’s
Planning & Development Committee, Rep. Gentile
has been a staunch supporter of numerous proposals to provide towns
with much-needed relief from unfunded state mandates."
The award was
presented at COST’s 2013 Connecticut Town Meeting held in Cromwell,
which was attended by more than 350 municipal leaders, public officials
and state lawmakers.
COST is an
advocacy organization committed to giving small towns a strong voice in
the legislative process. Its members are Connecticut towns with
populations of less than 30,000.
Gentile is in her fifth term serving the 104th House District. She is the House
Chair of the Environment Committee and is also a member of the Planning
and Development Committee and Commerce Committee.
This is a press release from Gentile's office.
