I scream, you scream, we all scream ...

for ice cream!

In the first of a series of occasional posts I bring you Ice Cream 101, my visits to some of the local spots to stop for ice cream this summer.

Guided by the thought that it's better to eat dessert in the afternoon, my daughter and I took our first high-calorie dip into ice cream-tasting Saturday at Wells Hollow Creamery at Wells Hollow Farm,  656 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton.

In true disorganized journalist form, I left without charging my camera batteries. I was able to snap this photo of the sign before the camera said no more.

Luckily Allegra had her iPhone with her and took some photos for me.

The shop features more than 50 flavors of ice cream. I ordered a cone with Moose Tracks: Vanilla with peanut butter cups and fudge swirl.
Despite the fact it was melting too fast and dripping all over me, it was quite delicious for anyone who likes chocolate with their ice cream.

Allegra ordered Play Dough in a cup. It does look like Play Dough, doesn't it?

It's vanilla ice cream with red and blue cookie dough pieces. She liked it and would get it again.

So my question to you, dear readers, is: What are your favorite places to go for ice cream in the Valley, in Milford, and in Bethany, Orange, and Woodbridge?

I have a couple of places in mind to visit in the next few weeks...as long as my wallet and my waistline don't fight back too much!

Leave me suggestions in the comments. I'm up for the challenge.

Allegra's cone did look like Play Dough, was the vanilla really that yellow ? It must have been really rich ice cream. This blog won't do my diet much good Patti, if you ever think you're being followed it's probably me. Just how often will you be heading out for ice cream ?

Whittemore Tavern in Seymour, and obviously "the Farm" in Oxford.
