Kids to get rhythm, learn science at Derby Public Library
DERBY - The Derby Public Library invites children ages 4-10 along with a caregiver to attend Fun with Rhythms at 10:30 a.m. July 20.
During his return visit, Edward Leonard will present this educational drum and music circle which is designed to teach children the fundamentals of music while playing interactive rhythm games with drums and hand-held percussion instruments.
In case of inclement weather, a July 27 rain date has been set.
Science Snoopers
The Science Snoopers series continues at the Derby Public Library for children ages 4-10.
Jean Mai presents Who’s There? Is it Loch Ness? at 1 p.m. July 18. Participants will learn about this mythical creature.
The Science Snoopers series are designed to introduce children to the natural world around them offering them an opportunity to explore the simplicity and complexity of science. The class includes a short talk enhanced with hands-on material, props and an experiment, a short story related to the theme followed by an art project.

The Science Snoopers series continues at the Library for ages 4-10. Jean Mai presents Purr-fect Predators at 1 p.m. Aug. 6. Participants will explore the world of the tiger.
This educational and fun science presentation is part of the children’s summer reading program Dream Bit-Read.

Lunch buddies
Join the Lunch Buddies Wednesdays, July 18, 25, and Aug. 1 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Library.
This book club, open to kids ages 8-10, is an opportunity for children to share their “reviews” of books they have read.
The 2013 Nutmeg Award nominees will be among the featured titles discussed.
Copies of all the Nutmeg nominees are available in the Children’s Room. Participants may bring a bag lunch to enjoy during this informal book talk. Dessert will be provided.
