This is Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller with a storm update
utilizing the Code Red System. Heavy snowfall overnight has left all
roads in Seymour impassable.
While Public Works has done its best to
try and keep up, they were no match for the volume of snow that fell in
such a short period of time.
We had several issues overnight of trucks
being stuck and needing to be pulled
out. At this point, we are focusing on the main arteries of town with
our larger trucks.
Once we have those open, we will start to work on
more of the side streets. The town will be bringing in some private
contractors to assist in opening the roads as quickly as we can. This
process will take many hours to accomplish.
Please don’t think your
road is being ignored or forgotten. We need to do this in a systematic
fashion to make sure it is safe for everyone, especially our public
works drivers. I am asking that all residents stay in their homes and
do not attempt to travel.
Other communities are facing the same issues
as is the state with our highway system. Our Emergency Management team
will be speaking again at 10 a.m. to determine next steps. Should you have
the need for emergency assistance, please contact the Seymour Police
Department at 203-881-7600.
I will provide more information as it
becomes available throughout the day. Thank you and please be safe.
