SHELTON - "Let’s give a big shout out to the Derby High School National Honor Society who helped build a house of food," DHS guidance counselor Jennifer Dunnuck said in a release.

Derby High School students were among a large group of volunteers that gathered nonperishable foods and donated them to the Valley United Way.

Dunnuck said, "On Saturday we took part in Harvest House (on the Shelton Riverwalk), where a house was built with these items to be distributed amongst the Valley food banks.
"I was so proud of these kids as they worked together to make our community a better place," she said. "A big thank you to Corri Davies who volunteered her time as well," Dunnuck said.
"Equally impressive was the appearance of recent graduates, Zach Volo and Tim Garrity, who came home from school to reunite with the United Way and continue their efforts towards volunteering."

Dunnuck added, "Things like this make you proud to be part of Derby High School!"

Kudos to these young people who took the time to help others in the community.
