SEYMOUR — While the Board of Selectmen Tuesday acknowledged that additional manpower is needed in the fire marshal’s office to assist with critical inspections that aren’t getting done, slapping business owners with fees to pay for the post is just not right.
That’s why the board unanimously rejected Fire Marshal Paul Wetowitz’s proposal to charge annual inspection fees for certain facilities, including day care centers, nursing homes and liquor establishments, which currently don’t pay for inspections or license renewals.
Wetowitz last month suggested charging fees as a means to offset costs for an additional part-time person in his office.
