By Register Staff
SHELTON — Police today identified the construction worker who died Tuesday after falling from a roof at the Sunwood Condominiums.
Police said Francisco Amaral, 46, of Bridgeport fell about 39 feet from the rear roof of the condominium units on Jean Court.
At about noon Tuesday, police and Shelton Emergency Medical Services employees responding to a 911 call found him unresponsive on the ground.
Amaral had been replacing skylights for J.C. Silva Remodeling Services of Bridgeport, according to city Detective Sgt. Kevin Ahern.
Amaral was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he died.
Police detectives and representatives of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration in Bridgeport are investigating. Detectives are interviewing other workers at the site, Ahern said.
Ted Fitzgerald, OSHA spokesman in Boston, said an investigator will be inspecting the site to see if there are any violations of workplace safety standards. He could not say how long the probe would take.
The death appears to be accidental, Ahern said.
