ANSONIA — Police are investigating the use of Parent Teacher Organization funds at John G. Prendergast School, Lt. Andrew Cota confirmed Thursday.
The department got a complaint Jan. 26 from Superintendent of Schools Carol Merlone, Cota said.
Merlone could not be reached for comment Thursday. On Wednesday, Merlone would not confirm that money is missing, but said, “If it did take place, it would be in the hands of the police.”
Cota said a detective was assigned to go through paperwork “to see if there’s anything criminal.” He said more documents have been requested from the PTO’s bank. He said he does not know how far back into the bank’s records the investigation will go.
