ANSONIA - Downtown merchants are rallying to cover the cost of repairing major damage done Monday night or early Tuesday at Nolan Field.
Vinnie Scarlata, chairman of the Economic Development Commission, said today that Chris Setaro, owner of The Original Antonio’s restaurant on Main Street, approached him with an idea to raise money for the necessary sod.
Officials have estimated the damage could be as high as $15,000.
Scarlata said he and Setaro decided to hold a “10 percent day,” in which 10 percent of all purchases at participating stores and restaurants will go toward repair of the football field.
As of this afternoon the Main Street businesses taking part are: Antonio’s; Hot Tamale Taqueria Express; Eddy’s Bake Shop; L2 Innovate computer store; and Chez Lollipop.
