ANSONIA - The Cultural Commission is sponsoring several events in the next few weeks.
The second free summer concert will be held Aug. 22 at Veterans Park next to City Hall.
The featured band will be "Soul Funk."
The band has played many times at Mohegan Sun casino and locally at the PM Lounge on Main Street.
The music starts at 7 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. Spectators are asked to bring their own chairs, snacks etc.
The first concert went to the rain date which was the following night and everyone who attended had a great time.
Audience members were treated to a surprise visit from The Original Antonio's restaurant. Owner Chris Setaro sent over a variety of pizzas. Attendees danced and listened to the music of 'The Starving Artists," who played tunes from the 50s 60s, and 70s.
Alums to gather
On Aug. 18, alumni of Ansonia High School and the former Pine High School will meet on the patio at John J. Sullivan's restaurant, 557 Wakelee Ave., for their annual All-Decades Reunion. The fun starts at 6 p.m. and runs through 11 p.m.
There will be prizes awarded, piped-in music, appetizers served throughout the evening, a cash bar and good conversation with former classmates.
Cost is $15, with a portion being returned to help defray the cost of the commission's summer concert series. No reservation is necessary.
Lanzieri to perform
A third concert will feature resident Mark Lanzieri and his band, who will perform from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 5.
Lanzieri, an Ansonia native, has a great following in the Valley. He sings Frank Sinatra tunes to the delight of the crowd.
Rain date for both concerts is the following night.
This is the first time that the City of Ansonia has held outdoor concerts.
