July programs planned for ages 18 and over
DERBY - The Derby Public Library invites you to escape to the maritime world of days gone by at 6:30 p.m. July 2.
As part of the Library’s Adult Summer Series, Monday Evening Escapes and Escapades, Rick Spencer, historic music entertainer will present "Songs of Our Seafaring Traditions."
Participants will be taken back to the period from the 1790s to the 1930s through a collection of songs that have been passed down through the years.
The program has a local connection and will include a reference to and a song about Derby-born maritime hero, Commodore Isaac Hull.
Spencer worked at Mystic Seaport for more than 20 years and is recognized internationally as an authority on the history and presentation of maritime songs and chanteys from the American traditions.
At 6:30 p.m. July 9 adults ages 18 and over are invited to escape to the rainforest.
As part of the Library’s Summer Series, Monday Evening Escapes and Escapades, the Beardsley Zoo Zoomobile will present "Remarkable Rainforests."
Participants will travel through the rainforest to find out what coffee, chocolate, and cockroaches have in common, as they see and learn about the animals that live there.
Registration is requested for both programs.
