Connecticut Partnership for Children plans Diaper Dash 5K
Nonprofit targeting need, raising awareness
SEYMOUR - Diaper need is the struggle for parents to provide what a baby needs to stay clean and dry.
In 2010, Huggies commissioned a study that found 1 in 3 American moms have had to decide between buying diapers and buying groceries.
Many of these moms have to clean and re-use soiled diapers.
Connecticut Partnership for Children, a Seymour-based nonprofit, is targeting the problem of diaper need and trying to raise diaper need awareness through the 1st Annual Diaper Dash 5K & Family Fun Run/Walk.
The Diaper Dash 5K will be held May 31. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m, the Kids' Fun Run will be held at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K starts at 9 a.m.
The race begins and ends on Seymour High School property, on a certified course that takes participants through the neighborhoods near the school. All participants will be timed.
Registration is $30 through May 29, and $40 on race day. Participants are encouraged to register in teams of five or more, although this is not required.
Name your team something creative! Show team spirit with funny hats, shoelaces, etc!
The first 250 participants to register will receive a goody bag. Dry-wick T-shirts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
At the event, the staff will be hosting a Stuff-A-Truck of Diapers - participants are encouraged to bring a package of diapers or wipes to help stuff the truck.
All donations go directly to The Valley Diaper Bank, which assists low-income families throughout Connecticut.
One of the event's Silver Sponsors, Naugatuck Valley Savings & Loan, will be running a water stop along the race route. Tina Marie Photography will be taking pictures of the event and the participants.
After the race, there will be fresh fruit and other items provided by Gold Sponsor, Stop & Shop in Seymour. DJ Reggie B will be playing music for participants to enjoy.
Prizes will be given for the top participants by age bracket, and the top male and female overall.
After the event Hot Tamale in Seymour will host the official Post-Race Party. All registered participants are invited to attend for appetizers and discounted beverages!
Do you want to help raise diaper need awareness and make a difference here in Connecticut? Register today. There are tons of great incentives being offered for registering- information is posted daily on the event Facebook Page.
