Managing carbohydrates is topic of talk
DERBY - The Diabetes Education &
Support Group at Griffin Hospital will host a free presentation to help
diabetics manage their carbohydrate intake June 10 at the hospital, 130 Division St.
“Carbohydrate Counting: Skills Into Practice” will be
presented at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s Dining Room.
Carbohydrate counting is a good self-management tool
to use when trying to improve blood glucose levels, while still enjoying a wide
variety of foods.
Using the ‘gram counting’ method, this program will cover how
to measure portions correctly to estimate total carbohydrates, how to count
fiber, and what to do when dining out and eating combination foods.
Record
keeping and pattern management will also be discussed.
The Diabetes Education &
Support Group meets September - June on the second Tuesday of each month to
discuss the management of diabetes, its challenges, and day-to-day dietary
concerns.
All diabetics and their families are welcome to attend.
No
registration is required. For more information, call Mary Swansiger,
203-732-1137.
