Shelton-Derby parade plans announced

SHELTON – Police Chief Joel Hurliman, president, Shelton-Derby Memorial Association, Tuesday announced the schedule of events for Memorial Day weekend. 
 
The annual memorial service held to honor Valley veterans who died in the past year  will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Derby High School auditorium, 6 Nutmeg Ave.
 
Hurliman said a parking ban will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday for the Shelton-Derby Memorial Parade. 
He said Derby has a similar parking ban along the route. The parade starts at 9 a.m. in Shelton. 
The line of march will step off at Howe Avenue and Wharf Street. It will take a right on Kneen Street, a right on Coram Avenue, a right on White Street, a right on Howe Avenue, and a left on Bridge Street.
Hurliman said marchers will stop on the bridge for a brief ceremony to toss a wreath into the Housatonic River in memory of all veterans lost at sea.
The parade re-forms on the bridge, takes a right on Main Street, Derby, and a left on Elizabeth Street. It continues past the reviewing stand in front of the Derby Green and ends at Cottage Street.
