Janice
A. Sheehy, Senior Vice President and Team Leader, Business Banking for Webster
Bank was elected as the 27th Chair of the Board of Directors at the
organization’s 46th annual meeting April 29.
Sheehy succeeds Fred
Ortoli who completed two terms as the Board Chair.
In addition to Sheehy other officers elected were Jennifer Bull (Dworken Hillman LaMorte &
Sterczala, P.C.) as Vice Chair, Jimmy Tickey (JWN Online) as Secretary, and Greg
DeStefano (Marcum LLP and Partner) as Treasurer.
Members
of the corporation also elected Ruth Parkins (Iroquois Pipeline Operating Co.)
and Deb McGuigan (Prudential Annuities) as new board members and Carol Merlone
(Superintendent,
Ansonia Public Schools) to a second term on the board.

Sheehy
has been involved in a variety of leadership positions with Valley United Way
for years including serving as Chair of the successful 1994 Community Fund
Raising Campaign and as Vice Chair of the Board in 1998.
In
addition to her banking career and United Way work, she has been an involved
community leader serving on numerous other boards including the Birmingham
Foundation, the Hewitt Foundation and Shelton Economic Development Corp. She is also a
corporator of Griffin Hospital and was a member of the steering committee that
raised funds for the Breast Cancer Center.
Sheehy is
also a former volunteer for Junior Achievement, has served as Chair of the
Board of the Valley YMCA and is a past member of the Community Foundation for
Greater New Haven’s Women and Girls Fund.
Her
community leadership has been recognized by the Greater Valley Chamber of
Commerce, which presented her with its Gold Seal Award.
She also received the Charles H. Flynn Humanitarian Award from Valley
United Way.
Sheehy graduated from the University of New Haven with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Business Administration.
