Derby students win top prizes in national poster contest

DERBY — Two local students walked away with top national prizes for their heartfelt crayon depictions of patriotism in a poster contest.
The St. Mary-St. Michael School pupils beamed as they were given their awards in the competition, sponsored by the national Catholic War Veterans and its auxiliary.
Teresa Joseph, daughter of Minimol and Joji Joseph, won first place, and Connor Hayes, son of Jen and Ken Hayes, won third place.
The local contest was sponsored by Post 1562 Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary. Its president, Evelyn Browning, said she was “thrilled to death” to have the two city winners.
