FRIDAY FIVE: A recap of this week in the Valley

News in the Valley this week ranged from a tragic loss of life to an inspiring story about elementary school students helping their disabled peers.
The stories listed below, written by Register Correspondent Jean Falbo-Sosnovich and Register reporters Bridget Albert and Patricia Villers, are in no particular order.

Fatal shooting in Derby. Jayvon Zimmerman, 22, of Ansonia was shot to death last weekend. 


Seymour voters nix budgets, again. The next step will be a special meeting of the Board of Finance at 7 p.m. Monday at Town Hall.

New principal named for Derby's Irving School. The Board of Education announced Friday afternoon that Jennifer Olson of Cheshire will succeed Francis Gallo, who is retiring.

Autism Awareness at John G. Prendergast Elementary School. Students serve as peer mentors to their schoolmates with disabilities.


Daniel GreenWolf, fire eater. This story about a magician/fire eater from Ansonia who will be tempting fate next month really sparked our interest.
