Here's a chance to make mom proud and possibly win a prize too

It’s almost Mother’s Day and the New Haven Register wants to help you in your gift-giving quest. Here’s the rub: You have to tell us, in a video or in 500 words or less, the best lesson your mother taught you and how you’ve applied it to your life.
The deadline is Tuesday, May 9. Winners will be announced in the Register, on www.nhregister.com and on our Facebook page.
The first-place winner will receive a Mother’s Day package, valued at $250, from Joiya Day Spa in Hamden, which includes a manicure, pedicure and facial for two. Other gifts include a $50 gift card to Leon’s restaurant in New Haven; a $50 gift certificate to the Mochi Store in New Haven (those cute little Japanese ice cream balls); and a gift card worth $50 from Charli’s Cupcake Factory in West Haven.
