Health district to offer early intervention services

Naugatuck Valley Health District announced today it will provide a new service for district residents.
Funded through a Ryan White Part A grant to Waterbury Health Department, the Early Intervention Services program provides community outreach, education and case management services to residents of the Central and Lower Naugatuck Valley.
The EIS program staff will be at the NVHD office in Seymour once a month, beginning May 14, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Free screenings for sexually transmitted diseases will be available, as well as assistance in locating resources for health care within the community. Call 203-881-3255 for information.

In addition, NVHD has added new vaccines to the list of immunizations available for adults, Varicella (chicken pox vaccine) and Tdap. People 13 years of age and older who have never had chickenpox or received Varicella vaccine should get two doses, at least 28 days apart.
Chickenpox vaccination is especially important for healthcare professionals, teachers, child care workers, residents and staff in nursing homes and residential settings, college students and international travelers.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends use of a single dose of Tdap for adults 19-64 years of age to replace their next scheduled Td (tetanus diphtheria). The ACIP also recommended Tdap for adults who have close contact with infants younger than 12 months of age.

    For information about the district’s services, call 203-881-3255,  from 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. weekdays.
The Naugatuck Valley Health District office is at 98 Bank St., Seymour. It serves residents of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Naugatuck, Seymour and Shelton.

This release was provided by Deborah Horvath, Assistant Director, Community Health Services,

In my case I think I do not need the vaccine since I have experience having a chicken pox before. One more thing what are the range of ages that is needed to have a vaccine?
