Seymour Historical Society presents Civil War Encampment

SEYMOUR--Come learn about the lives of Union soldiers in the Civil War as re-enactors from the 14th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, Company F set up camp on the Seymour Historical Society grounds on Sunday, May 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will be held immediately after the Seymour Memorial Day parade, in which members of Company F will march.

The original Company F saw action from September 1862 until the end of the Civil War, and fought at Antietam and Gettysburg. One of its members, Joseph Pierce, was the highest-ranking Union soldier of Chinese ethnicity. In the upcoming living history program, present-day members of the group will set up tents and portray the day-to-day life of the average soldier. Uniforms, supplies, firearms, food and medical equipment will be discussed and displayed.

The non-profit Seymour Historical Society is located at 59 West Street, near the Trinity Episcopal Church and less than a half mile from where the parade will end at the Seymour Community Center. We invite parade-goers to continue their day by joining us for this special program. We kindly request a $3 donation ($5 per couple) from non-members of the Society. For more information, call 203-881-2156 or contact psussman@snet.net.
