DERBY -  Pleasant weather and a record number of participants marked the Fourth Annual Center for Cancer Care 5K Walk/Run  Saturday.
More than 550 participants raised over $55,000 for patient programs and assistance at the Center For Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital. The number of walkers and runners was the largest in the event’s history.
“Once again, the community displayed its amazing compassion at the Walk/Run,” said event co-chair and Cancer Center Chief Radiation Therapist Lori Murphy, RT(T). “It is truly inspiring to see the amount of people who came out to support local cancer patients.”

“We are very grateful to all the sponsors, donors and participants for their wonderful energy and overwhelming support,” said event co-chair and Cancer Center Radiation Therapist Laura Howell. “Their support will make sure our patients get the help they need to boost their spirits and make their treatment a little easier.”
Proceeds from the 5K Walk/Run provide Center for Cancer Care patients with free transportation, support groups and yoga classes, free wigs, co-pay assistance, or other forms of financial assistance.

Sponsors for the Walk/Run were: The Ansonia Rod & Gun Club; Elekta; Polish Falcons of America; Yale Therapeutic Radiology; Euro Homecare; LLC.; Comcast; Centrix; Kind Healthy Snacks; Star 99.9 FM; Patch.com; Adams Super Food Store; Big Y; Bruegger’s Bagel; David M.
