State Rep.
Linda M. Gentile, D-Ansonia, Derby was recognized as a 2012 Legislator of the Year
by the Connecticut Town Clerks Association.
Gentile was one
of four presented the award at the Clerks’ recent Fall Conference in
Westbrook.
The honor was bestowed for her work on the passage of HB
5539 (PA 12-187).
On the final day of the 2012
session, Gentile was instrumental in getting this important
legislation called and amended in the House as Chair of the Planning and
Development Committee.
“I am truly honored to receive this recognition from such a distinguished group representing every part of the state,” Gentile said. “Helping clerks with their daily service to the public is an important priority.”
HB 5539 clarifies copy fees. Under this new law, town clerks shall receive for a copy
in any format of any document either recorded or filed in the
clerk's office, $1 for each page.
It increases from $1 to $2 the fee
for assignments and it limits the recording of multiple assignments to
20 on a single document. Prior to passage of this
last item, financial institutions could record an unlimited number of
assignments on a single document.
This legislation was a result of a
compromise between the CT Bankers Association and the Town Clerks
Association.
The Connecticut Town Clerks Association promotes excellence and
professionalism through support, communication, and educational
opportunities for each of their members.
This is a release from Gentile's office.
