DERBY — The city's animal control officer, Joe Klapcik, resigned abruptly Friday, police said.
Klapcik had previously said he was planning to leave April 30, police spokesman Lt. Salvatore Frosceno said today.
The city began looking into options for his replacement, Frosceno said in a written statement.
Oxford Animal Control will provide temporary services, including emergency calls and maintenance of the Animal Control Shelter, Frosceno said.
This is the fourth recent resignation in the city.
Finance Director Henry Domurad submitted his letter of resignation Friday, making him the second City Hall employee to resign this week.
In an undated letter submitted to Mayor Anthony Staffieri, Domurad said he’s leaving because “a number of personal responsibilities have arisen that require my full attention.”
Domurad said his resignation would take effect immediately or “with whatever reasonable time frame of notification decided upon by the Mayor.” He had been hired in 2008.
“I have been honored to work for my city, as well as the administration, and on behalf of the people of Derby,” Domurad wrote.
Tax Collector Cinda Buchter submitted her letter of resignation Wednesday.
Staffieri told the New Haven Register earlier that week that a replacement for Buchter may be named this week, but that Buchter will stay on to aid in the transition with a replacement.
The mayoral-appointed position is a union job. Staffieri said Buchter was “very knowledgeable” and he was “sorry to see her go.”
Earlier this month, Superintendent of Schools Steve Tracy also announced his resignation. Tracy has accepted a job with the state Department of Children and Families as superintendent of Unified School District 2. He officially leaves Derby July 1.
