SHELTON — Issues ranging from the death penalty to promoting tourism were on the table Thursday at the Plaza Diner as state Reps. Lawrence Miller, R-Stratford, and Jason Perillo, R-Shelton, had a coffee chat with constituents.
State Sen. Kevin Kelly, R-Stratford, was scheduled to attend, but was not able to be there. The Senate had worked late into the night and voted 20-16 to repeal the death penalty. The bill now goes to the House of Representatives.
Both Miller and Perillo said the majority of state residents support the death penalty. One woman at the table, who described herself as a Catholic, said she was in favor of the death penalty “for heinous crimes.”
