SEYMOUR — A historic school bell that graces the lawn in front of Town Hall soon will get a facelift.
The project is expected to cost about $2,500.
Dee Caruso, assistant to First Selectman Kurt Miller, said she recently contacted the McShane Bell Foundry in Baltimore, which cast the bell in 1885.
The bell had been manufactured for the former Center School on Bank Street, she said.
The bell called schoolchildren from 1886 to 1976, according to a plaque located under the bell outside Town Hall. Caruso said after Maple Street School (now Anna L. LoPresti School) was built as an elementary school, Center School became the high school.
