ANSONIA — A wall at Hilltop Hose Co. 5 firehouse, 80 Pulaski Highway, was damaged Monday afternoon when it was struck by the door of a fire truck, an official said.
Fire Commission Chairman Eugene Sharkey, who was on the scene, said firefighters had been conducting a drill “under the direction of officers on the scene” when the accident occurred.
“They were pulling out a piece of apparatus when the door on the truck caught a corner of the building,” Sharkey said. “There is no safety hazard,” he said, and no one was injured.
“We’re lucky that this portion of the building didn’t come down,” he said.
An Ansonia building contractor, DiGiovanni & Sons, was on the scene shortly after the accident assessing the damage. No dollar estimate of damage was available.
