SEYMOUR — Demolition of the remainder of the former burned out Housatonic Wire Co. site could get under way in less than two weeks.
That’s because a long-awaited $200,000 loan to foot the demolition bill finally was released Tuesday to property owner Alex Budzinski.
“Today, the state Department of Economic and Community Development released funds for my loan to start the long overdue cleanup,” Budzinski said. “My sincerest thanks to my good neighbors and residents of Seymour for their understanding and support through this difficult time.
“We all know that large insurance claims take years and government loans take months. With this loan from DECD, I can now start the long overdue cleanup process,” he said.
“The demolition company (not me) will be pulling a demo permit with the town shortly. Be certain, I will not compromise the safety or health of our neighbors just to see machines moving sooner.”
Budzinski said he plans to post pictures on his Facebook page once demolition gets started so residents can follow the progress.
Budzinski estimates demolition will begin the week of April 23.
