DERBY - The Derby Public Library invites everyone to its Annual Spring Open House and
evening presentation, Astronomy for Everyone 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m. May 1. Information on all Library services and events, including summer programs, will be available. Cookies and punch will be on hand throughout the day. There will also be a free spring-themed basket raffle.
Astronomy for Everyone presented by astrophysicist Kevin Manning will begin at 6:30 p.m. A former consultant with NASA, Manning has always been passionate about astronomy and wants to share his excitement with others.Participants will learn about the size and scale of the universe, the stars, and other celestial bodies using hands-on activities and assorted visuals. Weather permitting, a powerful telescope will be set up outdoors for viewing the Moon, the rings of Saturn, and other objects in the night sky.
The library will host a Movie Night for ages 11 to 17 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 25.
The title will be a newly released feature on DVD. Attendees are invited to a pre-show pizza social and post-show film critique. Seating is limited. Registration is required and will close the day before show date.
