DERBY - The 2019 Griffin Health Gala Oct. 11 will be a star-studded event as top celebrity impersonators from Las Vegas bring glitz and glam to Aria in Prospect.

The event will run from 6:30-11:30 p.m.

Master Impersonators, The Edwards Twins, will present An Evening with the Stars, a rollicking live performance of musical hits from legendary musical superstars. 

The Edwards Twins have performed all over the world and received rave reviews from national media, including the NBC Today show, USA Today and The Boston Globe.

Guests will also be treated to exquisite dining to match Aria’s delightfully manicured and sculpted gardens, and breathtaking scenic views of autumn in Connecticut.

The evening closes out with dancing to the invigorating and eclectic sounds of La Blanc Entertainment. There will also be a silent auction for guests to bid on exciting items, fabulous experiences, and one-of-a-kind memorabilia.

Tickets start at $195 per person. Black tie is suggested.

Proceeds from the Gala will help develop and sustain essential programs and services that address the wide-ranging health care needs of the communities Griffin serves ensuring access to innovative, high-quality care in a healing, person-centered environment.

The Friend A. Russ Fund will be honored with the 2019 Presidents Award at the Gala.

Fundraiser for Phil Tripp

ANSONIA - A fundraising event for Mayoral Candidate Phil Tripp will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Central Subalpi Club, 30 Parker St.

Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz will be on hand. 

A suggested donation of $50 will be payable at the door. There will be a selection of hors d’oeuvres and Italian eats, made by one of our Ansonia resident’s local restaurants. Assorted soft drinks and a cash bar will also be available.

Tripp has dedicated his life to this country, serving 34 years between the U.S. Army, Army Reserve and National Guard and retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Locally, he has tirelessly continued his service to the community by fulfilling his duty as an alderman over the last eight years. 

Still, he is looking to do more for the residents of Ansonia. Tripp was humbled by his nomination and is enthusiastic to roll up his sleeves and get to work on behalf of Ansonia as their mayoral candidate. 

“The people of Ansonia deserve honest leadership dedicated to fiscal responsibility, clean government and authentic economic development," Tripp said.

Fundraiser for Fido and Fluffy

Free Lunch Program Offered in Ansonia

ANSONIA – Ansonia Public Schools is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) as part of the National School Lunch Program for school year 2019-2020. Under the CEP provision, participating districts and schools provide free breakfast and lunch to all students at all times. Parents and guardians no longer are required to complete household income applications in order to determine eligibility for free or reduced-price meals at schools participating in the CEP.

All students enrolled in the following schools will receive meals through the School Breakfast Program (SBP) and National School Lunch Program (NSLP) at no charge. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no charge to all students who attend the following schools: Ansonia High School, Ansonia Middle School, Prendergast School and Mead School. In addition, lunch will be provided at no charge to all students who attend Assumption School in Ansonia and St. Mary & St. Michaels School in Derby.

Girl Scouts Doing Good Things

DERBY – Girl Scout Troops 38392 and 38325, of Milford, helped make visits to the Griffin Hospital Emergency Department a little more comforting with a donation of books, magazines and toys.

Griffin recently started collecting items and activities, such as paperback books, crossword puzzles, toys and playing cards, to help patients, especially children, feel more comfortable during their stay in the Emergency Department.

Maggie Cole, a patient safety monitor at Griffin and leader for Girl Scout Troops 38392 and 38325, heard about the need and organized collections that included area troops as well.

The Scouts delivered several bags of children’s books, magazines and toys to the Emergency Department recently.

“We are very grateful to Maggie and all the scouts for this donation,” said ER Nurse Susan Rupar. “We plan to have a cart with books and items to help patients pass the time as they wait for test results or for treatment.”

Get Help Paying for Heating Bills

Energy assistance is a program that helps people having difficulty paying the cost of heating their home. Through an intake and assessment process, Energy Assistance staff determine how TEAM and its services can best help lower energy costs. The goal of this program is to keep households warm and safe during the winter months.

Now is the time to think about applying to TEAM Inc. for assistance with winter heating costs. Families and individuals seeking financial help to offset their winter heating bills may apply beginning August 1, 2019.

Applicants are deemed eligible based on review of their total household gross income, such as job earnings, unemployment compensation, social security, pension etc.; household size; and liquid assets. If an applicant is approved for assistance, TEAM will make a direct payment to their home utility heating provider or will pay for one or more fuel deliveries, based on eligibility, starting in November.

Both homeowners and renters who are residents of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, Milford, Orange, Oxford, Seymour, Shelton, and Woodbridge can apply for energy assistance from TEAM.
