Griffin Hospital Sharing Hearts Support Group Meeting March 23

DERBY - Griffin Hospital’s Sharing Hearts Support Group will meet Thurs., March 23 at 6:30 p.m. at The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave., Derby.
 
The Sharing Hearts Support Group aims to lower the anxiety and stress that comes with a heart condition diagnosis by offering monthly education on heart health and area resources, as well as the support of fellow individuals with heart conditions.
 
Future meetings will be held April 27, May 25 and June 22. Caregivers are also invited to join.

Griffin Hospital Offers Sharing Hearts Support Group

DERBY - Griffin Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation is offering free heart health education and support to individuals diagnosed with a heart condition.

The Sharing Hearts Support Group aims to lower the anxiety and stress that comes with a heart condition diagnosis by offering monthly education on heart health and area resources, as well as the support of fellow individuals with heart conditions.

The group starts its 2017 series of meeting with a new date and location on Thurs., Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave., Derby.

Healthy snacks topic of demo at Derby library

DERBY - The Derby Public Library has scheduled a cooking demo at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10.
In recognition of February as American Heart Month the theme of the night will be Heart Healthy Snacks.

Stacey Ference of Savour Catering will show participants how to get their heart pumping with delicious alternatives to chips and candy bars.
There will be samples of all demonstrated foods.

The class is for ages 18 and older.  Registration is required.

Griffin to host heart health fair in Derby

DERBY - Information on how to stay heart healthy will be in the spotlight April 20 at The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave.

The Heart Health Fair will run from 9 a.m. to noon and will feature presentations by medical experts.

Cardiac rehabilitation department director Eunice Lisk said Dr. Avinash Gulrajani will discuss pacemakers and defibrillators, Dr. Rista Ramlogan will speak on "Excess Weight and Stress on Heart Health," Dr. Alon Ronen will discuss "Food for Your Heart," Dr. Lisa Rosenberger will talk about "What is Integrative Medicine," and Dr. Martin Plavec will lead a roundtable discussion on cardiac issues.

Lisk also said members of Griffin Hospital's Cardiac Rehab and Fitness Center will hold their second annual reunion with a reception from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The fair will offer information and demonstrations on services and programs offered at Griffin Hospital, including: blood pressure, cardiac risk and sleep apnea screenings, stroke assessments,  body composition, nutrition, exercise, congestive heart failure, CPR training, pet therapy, and more.

There will be healthy recipes and refreshments provided.

Cardiologist to address Valley Heart Club today

DERBY - Dr. Kenneth Schwartz, Chief of Cardiology at Griffin Hospital, will address the Valley Heart Club at 7 p.m. today at the hospital, 130 Division St.

February is American Heart Month.

The Valley Heart Club is a heart disease support group that educates people through its monthly meetings. The group meets the third Tuesday of every month (excluding July and August).

DERBY - If you have questions about heart disease, treatment options and how to keep your heart fit and healthy, Griffin Hospital has the answers.
Griffin will host “Heart-to-Heart,” an open forum with cardiologist Martin Plavec, and Griffin Hospital’s Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation Eunice Lisk, at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in the hospital’s Meditation/Learning Center at 130 Division St.
These two heart experts will provide easy-to-understand information about warning signs for heart problems and what you can do to help prevent them. They will also discuss common heart issues, like Congestive Heart Failure and high blood pressure, how to get tested for heart disease, and discuss the benefits and risks of treatment options.
The forum is in recognition of National Heart Awareness Month in February. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, but heart disease is preventable and controllable.
The presentation is part of Griffin Hospital's Healthy U “Tuesday Talks,” a series of free wellness talks featuring Griffin Hospital medical experts and community partners providing trusted health information and answers to questions on a wide range of topics.
All Tuesday Talks are held in Griffin Hospital’s Meditation and Learning Center. Light refreshments will be served.

Talk at Derby Neck to highlight heart health

    DERBY - The Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave., will host a program, “Health Matters, Get Heart Smart” at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30.
    Guest presenter will be Eunice Lisk, Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Griffin Hospital.
    This is a new monthly health series being offered through a partnership between Derby Neck Library and Griffin Hospital Valley Parish Nurses.
