DERBY - Griffin Hospital, 130 Division St., Derby, will host a free talk on pain management on Thurs., May 24 at 6 p.m.

 

Pain medicine expert Dr. Sandeep Johar will lead “Managing Pain for a Better Quality of Life,” an open discussion about the methods to help restore and improve quality of life by decreasing pain and restoring the maximum level of function and independence. Dr. Johar has a multi-disciplinary medical background in interventional pain management, sports medicine and emergency medicine, enabling him to collaborate with our other specialists to ensure patients have a comprehensive treatment plan.

 

The talk is part of Griffin Hospital's Healthy U education series, which features Griffin Hospital medical experts and community partners providing trusted health information and answers to questions on a wide range of topics. Light refreshments will be served.

National Walk-in Healthcare Center Opens in Shelton

Griffin schedules free mini-med school

DERBY -  Griffin Hospital is accepting registrations for its free 10-week “Mini-Med School” course that begins Sept. 13, 2012.
The free course, which will be conducted over 10 consecutive weekly sessions by various Griffin Hospital physicians who serve as faculty, will meet Thursdays from 6:30 – 9 p.m. in the hospital’s Meditation and Learning Center.
The Mini-Med School will culminate with a “graduation” ceremony for participants on Nov. 15.

The course is specifically designed for the layperson with little or no medical background, providing a unique opportunity to gain a greater understanding of how the human body works, insight into common disorders of the various organ systems, as well as information about disease prevention.

Each weekly session will be divided into two hour-long presentations on different medical topics, with a refreshment break between presentations and ample time for questions and answers.

This is the ninth time Griffin Hospital has offered this popular Mini-Med School course, which covers the following topics over its 10-week schedule:

• Cardiology
• Endocrinology

Best-selling author to speak at Crosby Commons

SHELTON - Crosby Commons will host a presentation by Dr. Bernie Siegel, author of the best-selling book "Love,  Medicine & Miracles" at 2:30 pm. July 26.
Siegel will speak about "How We Can All Be Healers When We Learn To Listen."

Crosby Commons is located at Wesley Village, 580 Long Hill Ave. The free presentation is open to those over 60; reservations are required.
