Let's Go to the Hop!


ANSONIA- An "At the Hop" Fundraiser will be held from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Oct. 5 at Assumption Church Hall, 66 N. Cliff St. to benefit the Master;s Table Community Meals program.

Ticket donation is $20, with proceeds helping the nonprofit program provide free meals to low income families, homeless, working poor or anyone in the Valley in need of a good meal.

The public is invited to attend, which will feature a cabaret style. Those who attend can bring their own snacks and beverages. Entertainment will be provided by Dick DeLibro and Paula Pettinella, who'll be bringing the sounds of Sinatra, Bobby Darin and Mowtown.

Reading Rocks in Ansonia


ANSONIA — Students and families in Ansonia are invited to attend the 2nd Annual Summer Reading Rocks, which will be held on the property of Christ Episcopal Church across from the Ansonia Library on South Cliff Street this Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is free of charge.
Many of last year’s offerings will be returning this year, including live entertainment, traveling performers, a picnic lunch, a petting zoo, face painters and a balloon artist, a self-contained soft play obstacle course, and free raffles.
A backpack, water bottle and summer reading books will be available for Ansonia students who register during the event. More than a dozen local organizations providing services to Ansonia residents will be on hand to distribute free information.

The main stage will feature the following performers: Lynn’s Sing A Long at 11 a.m.; Author Ried Kaplan, who will read his book, “Let’s Eat Together” at noon; Al DeCant, the singing principal, shortly after 1:00 p.m.; and magician Danny Magic at 2 p.m. Raffles will be held at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Ansonia Library is co-sponsoring Reading Rocks with the school district. Funding is being provided by the State of Connecticut through grants awarded to Ansonia Public Schools.

Seymour VFW to Host Irish Dinner

SEYMOUR - VFW Post 12084 will host its 6th annual Irish Dinner at 3 p.m. March 11 at Colonial Tavern, Oxford.
 
The all-you-can-eat dinner includes corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, pasta with broccoli, dessert and beverages. Tickets are $20 per person and must be reserved by Feb. 27.
 
The event will also feature dancing and entertainment provided by Tony Castle, along with door prizes.
 
The public is invited and all proceeds will benefit VFW programs.

Ansonia to hold Irish flag-raising ceremony Saturday

ANSONIA - The city's Cultural Commission is sponsoring an "Irish Flag Raising" ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in front of City Hall, 253 Main St.

That portion of the street will be closed for the ceremony and entertainment immediately following.

The Rev. Jeff Gubbiotti, pastor, Church of the Assumption will offer the invocation and students from the Assumption School will be on hand to recite the "Pledge of Allegiance" and sing The National Anthem and an Irish tune.
Mayor David S. Cassetti and James Hubbard of Ansonia will do the honor of raising the Irish flag. Cassetti also will read a proclamation honoring the Irish ancestry and heritage.

Phyllis Kaplan, a local DJ, will play Irish tunes as people arrive for the festivities. She said she'd love to have everyone join in for an Irish sing-a-long prior to the ceremony and again at the conclusion.

The Doyle Senior Center chorus, under the direction of Josephine Blackwell, will entertain with several tunes and students of the Mulkerin School of Irish Dancing in West Haven will perform traditional dances, including an Irish jig, in the blocked off street 

Also performing will be a barbershop quartet from the Coastal Chordsmen of Trumbull.  "Take Four" will sing a rendition of "Wild Irish Rose,""McNamara's Band," and "The Irish Parting Blessing." Victor Lembo, a member of Holy Rosary Church, sings tenor with the quartet.

The Cultural Commission invites the public to attend and join in the festivities. There will be a surprise after the ceremony and entertainment.

       The eighth annual Ansonia Harvest Festival will be held 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Oct. 6 along Main Street, Ansonia. Here is the entertainment schedule as of today.
