Ansonia school to host 'play date'

ANSONIA - Julia Day Nursery & Kindergarten is having a play date “Come and Play at Julia Day” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3.

 This is a free morning of activities including: art, science, blocks, dramatic play, music, writing, book area, and much more in three classrooms.

Be ready to explore and discover outside activities with sand play, dramatic play, climbing, etc. on a uniquely designed playground. 

A free snack and book will also be available to all the children. The activities are appropriate for children ages 2-7 years old.

Julia Day is located at 76 Central St. This is the school's 97^th year of caring for children and the first activity leading to its 100^th anniversary party.

Seymour Rec to offer preschool fun

SEYMOUR - The Seymour Recreation Department will offer activities in March and April for preschool children in the Valley.

Mondays: March 17-April 28
Playgroup for Parent/Guardian and children ages 1-5
Come out and play with other families and make new friends. Toys and games available.
No class on April 14
9:30-10:30 a.m.; $25 for six weeks

Tuesdays: March 18-April 29
Preschool Craft Class
An opportunity for ages 2-5 to be creative and make some fun projects. A story will be read and a corresponding craft opportunity will be made. (Please dress child in clothes that you don’t mind your child getting a bit dirty.)
No class on April 15
9:30-10:15 a.m.; $25 for six weeks

Wednesday or Thursday: March 19-April 30, March 20-May 1
Preschool Sports Mania Class
Ages 2-5 are welcomed to join us in sports and games that are geared for younger children. This class fills up quickly and is a great way for your child to get a basic introduction to some new skills like soccer, floor hockey, Frisbee toss, and more.
Proper gym attire required.
No class on April 16 and 17
9:30-10:15 a.m.; $25 for six weeks

All classes are held at the Seymour Recreation Department gym and classrooms at 20 Pine St.

Ansonia third graders' performance shines

Third graders at John C. Mead Elementary School in Ansonia Thursday presented “The Great Kapok Tree.”

The play is based on a children's book of the same name about the Amazon rain forest by Lynne Cherry.

Another group of third graders taking turns at the microphone.

 The kids show their enthusiasm as they perform a dance finale to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight."

Applause goes out to all 95 students in the play. They did a great job!

O'Brien students to present comedy in Ansonia

ANSONIA - The O’Brien Players will perform this lighthearted comedy about blind dating at 6:30 p.m. May 2 in the cafeteria. The school is at 141 Prindle Ave.

Dinner will be provided by the culinary department and is included in the ticket price of $10.
