Derby Public Library offers 'chat and chew,' movies

DERBY - The Derby Public Library, 313 Elizabeth St., has scheduled its next Lunchtime Book Discussion for 12:30 p.m. Jan. 29.

The selected title is the powerful novel, The Orphan Train, by Christina Baker Kline.

Penobscot Indian Molly Ayer is close to “aging out” of the foster care system.

A community service position helping an elderly woman clean out her home is the only thing keeping Molly out of “juvie” or worse.
As she helps Vivian sort through her possessions and memories, Molly learns that she and Vivian aren’t as different as they seem to be.

This is a story of resilience, unexpected friendship, and of secrets that we carry that keep us from finding out who we are.

Multiple copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.
Participants are asked to bring a sandwich and a friend as they “chat and chew.” Dessert and beverages will be provided.

Registration is requested.
