Walk, Run & Jog for a Good Cause

Calling all walkers, runners, and joggers!
Every year supporters of Spooner House gather together to walk the Derby Greenway in support of the hunger and homeless initiatives at Spooner House.
Join us this year on May 20th for our 20th year of this tradition!

You can choose to form your own team, join a team, or register as an individual.

Registration is $20.
Once registered, participants can set up their own fundraising pages.
The first 200 people to register will receive an event t-shirt and goodie bag.
All participants will be entered into a drawing to win prizes.

-Individual that raises the most money

By joining the Walk for the Hungry and Homeless you are supporting your neighbors in need in the Lower Naugatuck Valley receive food, shelter and support services with the goal of establishing a self-sufficient living situation.

Derby Middle School runners shine in Stratford race

Congratulations are in order for members of the Derby Middle School Running Club who won 19 medals Saturday at the 18th annual Stratford YMCA Sweetheart Run four-mile road race.

Derby Middle School runners defeat Waterbury team

The Derby Middle School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams Monday defeated North End Middle School, Waterbury, to open the season.

Finishing in the top 10 males were Steven Stanley, Jayce Curcio, Chase Bolton, Chris Oliwa, Tristan Pruzinsky, Brandon Kling, and Nicholas Mammano.

The female top 10 included Rachel Fleischer, Nicole Rizzo, Sara Gerckens, Sydnie Drezek, Skylar Curcio, Dayna Kneissel, Lily Wald, Samantha Inthapanhya, and Claire Douglas.

The team is coached by Derby teachers Mike Gozzo, Shelley Sheridan, and Jenny Ames.

DERBY - The Derby Middle School Running Club participated in the annual Derby Dash Saturday on Derby Day.

Steven Stanley and Rachel Fleischer finished first in their age group. 

Other runners included Joseph Mammano, Nicholas Mammano, Kiley Rodriguez, Sara Gerckens, Akshar Patel, Joshua Vega, Steven Stanley, Dana Kniessl, Jayce Curcio, Skylar Curcio, Tristan Pruzinsky, Nicolette Tasi, Lily Walk, and Tiana Figueroa.  

Bradley School third grader Sean Kniessl won the Kids Fun Run.

ANSONIA - The Derby Middle School Running Club participated Wednesday in the Valley YMCA Sunset Road Race.
Rachel Fleischer, Dana Kneissl, and Jayce Curcio finished first in their age group, Chase Bolton second, and Nicholas Mammano and Kiley Rodriguez were third.

Other runners included Josh Vega, Steven Stanley, Joseph Mammano, Tristan Pruzinsky, Nicolette Tasi, and Akshar Patel. 

The Club was joined by Derby High indoor/outdoor track team members Gabriella Prizio, Ben Garcia, Antonio Prizio, and Damir Poric.

Derby runners place first and second in Bridgeport 5K race

BRIDGEPORT - The Derby Middle School Running Club captains ran the Beardsley Beast 5K in Bridgeport Saturday.

Rachel Fleischer and Akshar Patel finished first in their age group and Tristan Pruzinsky and Nicole Rizzo placed second.

DERBY - The Derby Middle School Running Club participated Saturday in the Greenway 5K to benefit the Knights of Columbus. 

Runners Ejona Gjata, Kiley Rodriguez, and Jayce Curcio won their age groups.  

Other runners included Rocco Samoker, Rachel Fleischer, Casey Briggs, Samantha  Inthapanhya, Nicolette Tasi, Sara Gerckens, and Nicole Rizzo.

Derby runners compete in North Haven 5K race

DERBY - The Derby Middle School Running Club participated Sunday in the North Haven PTA 5K road race.

Steven Stanley finished first in his age group, breaking the 20-minute mark for the first time in the history of the club with a time of 19:59.  

Rachel Fleischer and coach Jenny Ames finished second in their age groups, with Kiley Rodriguez placing third. 


Other DMS runners included Tristan Pruzinsky, Nicolette Tasi, Sara Gerckens, Akshar Patel, Joseph Ostuno, and Rocco Samoker.
