Crash closes Rte. 334 in Seymour

SEYMOUR >> Route 334 is closed in both directions between Buckingham and South West roads because of a motor vehicle accident.

The crash was reported at 11:14 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

A utility pole was damaged in the crash and needs to be replaced. There were no reports of serious injuries.
Other details were not immediately available.
The DOT said it is not known when the road will be re-opened.

Derby man charged with hitting 2 pedestrians

DERBY >> A local man was arrested after striking two individuals on Bridge Street with his SUV and fleeing the scene early Thanksgiving morning, according to police.

Lt. Sal Frosceno said that James Depalmer, 22, of Olivia Street, turned himself in to police at 5 a.m. Thanksgiving. Depalmer had struck Marcus Campbell, 37, of High Street and Adam Diaz, 35, of High Street.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and began to treat Campbell and Diaz, who were injured.
Frosceno said witnesses who stayed on the scene described the SUV for police.
Frosceno said that an investigation revealed that Depalmer was driving the car, which had allegedly left the scene of the accident prior to police arrival.
Depalmer’s vehicle was located and both Campbell and Diaz were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for their injuries.
Depalmer was charged with reckless driving, evading responsibility and operating under suspension.
Frosceno said that Depalmer’s court date is set for Dec. 11 in Derby Superior Court.

School bus involved in 3-vehicle Ansonia crash; no students injured

ANSONIA >> A school bus was involved in a crash at Main and North Main streets in Ansonia Thursday afternoon, but none of the students aboard was injured, according to Lt. Andrew Cota of the Ansonia Police.
A bus was stopped at the corner and a car was stopped directly behind it when a third vehicle slammed into the car and pushed it partially under the bus, Cota said.
Some students from Emmett O’Brien Technical High School were reportedly checked at the scene for injuries as a precaution, according to NBC Connecticut.
Cota said the occupants of the middle vehicle were able to walk away from the scene, and the driver who caused the chain reaction was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for an evaluation.
The school bus was likely returning from a job site at which the O’Brien students were working, Cota said.

Cyclist hurt in Ansonia

    ANSONIA >> A bicyclist was injured at about 1 p.m. Thursday after reportedly crashing into a stonewall on Colony Street, Lt. Andrew Cota said in an e-mail.
    ”Upon officers’ arrival they found a male lying along the side of the road against a stonewall on Colony Street near the Seymour town line,” he said.
    “The male appeared to have serious head injuries and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital,” Cota said.
   
    The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Ansonia Police Department, 203-735-1885.

The identity of the 34-year old is being withheld until family members can be notified.   

Ansonia police investigating motorcycle accident on Great Hill Road

ANSONIA – Police Wednesday evening were investigating an accident involving a motorcycle on Great Hill Road.

At press time there was no information on injuries, or whether the accident involved multiple vehicles. The accident occurred at about 8 p.m.
