Economic Development Commission Chairman Vinnie Scarlata said Monday the farmers’ market held a soft opening Saturday with one farmer selling produce.
The market will open 2 p.m. Thursday.
Hours are 2-6 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.
Scarlata said it’s the same schedule as last year, but the location has changed.
The market relocated from the municipal parking lot on West Main Street to the newly-paved parking lot on Upper Main Street, next to Farrel Corp.
“Moving the farmers‘ market should be beneficial,” Scarlata said, since the site is more visible along Main Street.
Coupons redeemable at the farmers’ market are available for senior citizens who are city residents, he said.
Doyle Senior Center Director Mary Deptula said she has “quite a few” coupon books worth $18 each to distribute to residents 60 and over.
“They don’t have to use it at the Ansonia farmers’ market,” she said. “They can use the coupons at any Connecticut certified farm market between now and Oct. 31,” Deptula said.
Scarlata said the market will be
distributing discount cards to patrons for use toward purchases in a
variety of Main Street stores and restaurants.
