Ansonia Roads to Close Oct. 31 & Nov. 1

ROAD CLOSURE NOTIFICATION

 

 

On October 31, 2019 and November 1, 2019, the City of Ansonia will be closing Clifton Avenue to all southbound traffic for the milling and paving of Clifton Avenue between Father Lar Drive and Division Street. 

 

On October 31, 2019, the road will be closed from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

 

On November 1, 2019, the road will be closed from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

 

Traffic delays in the area may occur.

Division Street at railroad crossing at the Ansonia/Derby line to be shut down

The Division Street railroad crossing spanning the Ansonia/Derby line will be shut down for about a week starting April 24, and drivers are encouraged to pay attention to detour signs or they’ll literally be stopped in their tracks.
The state Department of Transportation will perform a long-overdue upgrade at the railroad/highway crossing on the Waterbury Branch of the Metro-North Commuter Railroad, according to Steve Curley, a senior engineer with the state DOT.
Curley said the last time the railroad crossing’s last upgrade was in 1992, which had a lifespan of about 20 years, making the upcoming upgrades necessary.

New stop sign in Ansonia hailed

ANSONIA - I thought I'd take a moment to say thank you to the city for installing a stop sign this week at a busy intersection that I drive through several times a day.

The stop sign on Root Avenue at the corner of Hill Street will make driving through there safer for all!

Shelton schedules road resurfacing

SHELTON - The following roads have been scheduled to be resurfaced starting this Thursday by the Highways and Bridges Department, in conjunction with Sealcoating Inc. of Braintree, Mass., police said in a release this morning.

Residents and motorists are advised to expect roadway closures, extended traffic delays.
Please plan trips around these areas to avoid extended delays.   

1.  Thursday (all day)

      a.  Waverly Road (entire length) - (first coat). 

            1)  1st Section -  Rt. 108 to Walnut Tree Hill Road. 

            2)  2nd Section – Walnut Tree Hill Road to Booth Hill Road.  

2.   Friday

        a.  Isinglass Road (partial) - (first coat).

             1)  From Rt. 108 to Waverly Road.  (Morning).

        b.  Waverly Road (partial) – (second coat).

              1)  From Walnut Tree Hill to Booth Hill Road.  (Afternoon). 

3.  Monday.

       a.  Isinglass Road (partial) – (second coat).

            1)  From Rt. 108 to Waverly Road.  (Morning).

       b.  Constitution Boulevard South – (first coat).

            1)  From Rt. 110 to new pavement area near Ivy Brook Road.  (afternoon - may go after 5 p.m.).

Traffic control

Two police officers with cruisers will be assigned for traffic control, along with flaggers from the Highways and Bridges Department. 

Officers will begin at 0700 hours and meet with the resurfacing crews at the Nike Site Recreation Complex, located off of Mohegan Road.
The officers will be assigned from 0700 -1630 hours, or longer if needed.

The Highways and Bridges Department have installed advance notice signs in the areas of work to alert motorists. 

Emergency vehicles

The roads will be accessible to emergency vehicles for calls of service and emergencies. 

School buses

All school buses will have access to their respective routes for pickup and drop off.  The resurfacing process may cause delays in the afternoon drop off. 

General information

The resurfacing process consists of a mix that will cover the existing roadway.  The mix takes approximately one hour to dry before being driven on.
The mix is applied at a width of 11-15 feet and usually takes two passes to cover the entire width of a regular two-lane road.  (Constitution Blvd. is wider.)

Crisco says traffic experts working on Rt. 34 safety improvements

HARTFORD - State Sen. Joseph J. Crisco, Jr. , D-Woodbridge, today reported continuing progress toward traffic safety improvements for Valley residents who use heavily traveled Route 34. 

State Department of Transportation officials are working collaboratively with Town of Seymour personnel and the area’s legislative delegation to make the intersection of Routes 188 and 34 less dangerous for motorists.

Crisco said the DOT has reviewed the recent crash history of the intersection and provided him with a comprehensive report; the DOT has also prepared a conceptual site improvement plan, along with a list of suggested, shorter-term improvements for town officials to consider.

“In recent years, traffic accidents where Route 188 ends at Route 34 have led to injuries and property losses for victims and inconvenience for other Valley motorists forced to endure the delays,” Crisco said. “It’s been gratifying this year to know the efforts of our legislative delegation, the DOT, the Valley Council of Governments, and municipal officials are advancing the cause of traffic safety for the valley residents who use that road.”

Crisco said the DOT has already replaced all the traffic signs in the area and repainted the road striping; installation of a traffic light is under consideration and enhanced speed enforcement, including the possibility of rumble strips, is under discussion for later this year.

“Route 34, which connects greater New Haven with the Danbury area as well as I-95 with I-84, has become a vital thoroughfare for Valley residents and truckers alike, and it is imperative we do all we can to ensure safe passage for all who use it,” Crisco said.
“The short-term mitigation measures already completed or underway represent a good start toward our long-term goal; I will continue pressing for wider roads and turn lanes on each to help keep drivers safe and help maintain a smooth flow of traffic.”

Crisco said the efforts of state Representatives Linda Gentile, D-Ansonia, Theresa Conroy D-Seymour, and Themis Klarides, R-Derby, have been most helpful throughout this process, working with local government leaders and state officials toward consensus on the most expeditious route forward.
